As many of us hit the six-month mark of remote work due to COVID-19, we’ve grown accustomed to days filled with virtual meetings instead of face-to-face gatherings. Cisco has been there for this transition, helping fill the void of empty conference rooms with Webex to facilitate an easy solution for video and online meetings.

From a user perspective, this transition to a reliance on virtual meetings has not been without challenges. Have you ever been unsure if you were muted, or scrambled to locate and mute that chatty person on your participant list? Do you find yourself wishing some of those Event and Training Center features were available in Meeting Center? Do you ever feel overwhelmed because you are the only one in a meeting with host privileges to manage the call? If you are like me and answered yes to all these questions, you will be excited to hear about the new features that are included in Cisco Webex 40.9.

Webex 40.9 New Features

Arriving in September 2020, Cisco Webex 40.9 is adding new features that will help to simplify and transform the virtual meeting experience. Here are some of my favorites that I think will really meet some specific needs requested by users.

Optimized Audio and Video Preview

The larger, optimized Audio/Video Preview window makes it easier to look your best and find the settings you need before joining a meeting.

Easy-to-Find Meeting Controls

Meeting controls are now clearly labeled and located at the bottom of your meeting window, which means you’ll always have them in sight, but without them covering up shared content or video.

Breakout Sessions

Place participants into smaller group sessions where they can collaborate and share ideas privately. This is great for workshops, classrooms or for when you just need a moment to talk privately with a few others, outside of the main session.

In-Meeting Cohost Role

As a meeting host, you can now assign other participants as cohosts. Cohosts share your host-level privileges like muting and unmuting other participants, moving participants to or admitting participants from the lobby, and more.

Modern View Is the New Standard for Meeting Center

Classic view will be deprecated. The new Modern View makes it easy to navigate the webex.com interface.

Control Meeting Volume from Paired Cloud Video Device

When you join a Webex meeting paired to a cloud device, you can control its volume from within the meeting.
