Networking

Network availability is crucial in today’s business world. Organizations require consistently fast and reliable network performance just to support mission-critical business applications, but the adoption of emerging technologies make bandwidth demands increasingly harder to meet. The Internet of Things (IoT), for instance, necessitates that IT teams expand the scope of their wired and Wi-Fi wireless networking to begin processing data outside the data center — at the edge, in the fog or in the cloud. Join CDW experts as they discuss how this digital transformation drives organizations to adopt next-generation networking technologies such as the cloud, software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) and intelligent WAN (iWAN).

The COVID-19 pandemic has made widespread remote work the “new normal” — business analysts predict that 25 to 30 percent of people will still be working from home multiple days per week even at the end of next year.

It’s critical that business and IT leaders ensure they are giving users the tools they need to be as productive and secure as possible while working from home. This is done by creating categories of users based on their work styles and technology needs and then providing the appropriate tools. Here are five factors that business and IT leaders should consider as they seek to refine and optimize the work-from-home user personas within their organizations.

Over the past few months I’ve spent a lot of time working with and researching some of the top SD-WAN vendors in the market right now to continue developing CDW’s Professional Services. In this blog series, I’d like to share overviews of each solution, my thoughts and the strengths and areas for improvement that I think apply to each solution. The goal of this blog series is to focus on technical aspects of these solutions and to avoid marketing fluff.

This blog will look at another one of the top contenders: Silver Peak Systems

It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally a major technological advance comes along at just the right time — for instance, when devices compatible with the IEEE 802.11ax wireless standard (or, Wi-Fi 6, the latest upgrade in wireless networking) come on the market just as a pandemic forces a massive shift to remote operations.

Wi-Fi 6 is more than a slight upgrade. The newest wireless standard offers faster data transfers, higher capacity and greater power efficiency that could extend battery life by 30 to 50 percent. Users will experience better performance on any Wi-Fi 6-enabled device, but optimal performance occurs when connecting over Wi-Fi 6-enabled routers and access points.

Here’s why Wi-Fi 6 is an ideal fit for today’s mobile-first operations — no matter where users are located.

While software-defined networking (SDN) is no longer a brand-new technology, many organizations have been slow to change the way they approach networking inside their data centers. Although we in the IT world like to pride ourselves on innovation, the truth is that we’re often just like everybody else: resistant to change, especially when what we’re already doing seems to be working just fine.

However, SDN tools such as Cisco ACI have a number of tangible benefits — both for IT departments and for the business units they support. Here are three of the top benefits for organizations that adopt Cisco ACI in their data centers.

Here’s a bit of good news for businesses that have made the shift to remote work: If you give your employees what they need to do their jobs, having them work from home can boost the bottom line.

How individual companies enable remote work depends on their industries and staffing, of course, but in our experience at CDW, most invest in a similar set of connectivity tools and services. Here’s a look at three of those solutions, and some thoughts on how they can help remote workers be productive.

Making the Transition to Remote Work

How CDW met the networking, storage, security, collaboration and communication needs of 7,100 workers — over a weekend.

While we at CDW are in the business of providing IT solutions and services to our customers, behind the scenes we deal with the same operational issues that other enterprises face. Earlier this year, our leadership made the decision to close our offices and arrange for all non-essential CDW coworkers to start working remotely.

Over the course of a weekend, our Information Technology teams gained firsthand knowledge of what our customers were either already going through or soon going to be. It was a tall order to tackle the enterprise networking, storage, security, collaboration and communication needs to allow 7,100 coworkers to work from home, but our teams rose to the task. Now, we’re sharing our experience with our customers.
