CISCO SOCIALMINER is new social customer care solution which enables companies to monitor public social media feeds. Out of the box, any RSS based public social feed such as Facebook, Twitter and Blogs can be easily monitored with Cisco SocialMiner. There are many other social media aggregator solutions in the market today. Cisco SocialMiner brings a new twist with its ability to easily integrate the social feed monitoring into real-time Unified Communications (UC) and Collaboration solutions. This enables businesses to be much more proactive with their social media engagement.

One of the most interesting use cases for Cisco SocialMiner is the ability to engage with customers in almost realtime at special events. After exploring some potential uses cases, the most interesting was the possibly of integrating realtime Foursquare check-ins into Cisco SocialMiner. Unfortunately, out of the box there is no way to push or pull real-time Foursquare check-ins directly into Cisco SocialMiner as Foursquare does not share public RSS feeds for Venues. On flip side, after a little digging it was discovered Foursqure does support sending Push notifications. After some brainstorming with some fellow CDW coworkers, we came up with nifty hosted web app that could capture the push notifications from Foursquare and redirect them to SocialMiner.

The next challenging part of this ‘special events’ use case was figuring out what could be done with the check-ins once they were in SocialMiner. I reached out to my good friends at SINGLEWIRE who informed me of their new Cisco Digital Media Suite (DMS) plugin for their InformaCast enterprise broadcast notification platform. This InformaCast DMS plugin would enable the ability to send pre-canned or adhoc broadcasts directly to HD digital signage displays. InformaCast suddenly became the last key component needed to deliver an exciting new ‘special events’ solution by bringing together the always fun to use Foursquare check-in social platform with the real-time monitoring power of Cisco SocialMiner!

Here is a quick video proof of concept demonstration of the Foursquare and SocialMiner integration in action with a Foursquare check-in broadcasted to a HD display in almost real-time:
